I was wondering what to write about and as I was in the garden I thought why not tell people a bit more about me and the things I like. Now you may know that I love animals and take in a number of varied and wonderful rescue cases. You may also have picked up I love being outside watching the insects and birds go about their day and seeing beautiful coloured plants. I do love the outdoors and enjoy a spot of gardening (or rather wildlife garden maintenance). This morning has involved tackling some rather spikey trees. They do give off good berries for the birds in autumn, but also cause a hazard to us. I have also being pond clearing as it has turned into grass this summer and needs a clear out for the frogs so they have a breeding pond again. I now smell like pond, but I don’t mind, I’m not much of a perfume lady. The only perfume I own that I have brought for myself is from a traditional perfumery in southern France and is organic and natural. It smells like roses and brings back lovely memories of France.
I also love to read and write, mostly things about animals,
complementary therapy and fanfiction (I’m a closet Trekkie). In addition I like
to draw and/or colour, but I’m not very good at it and tend to prefer to colour
mindfulness type pictures of (you guessed it) animals. My favourite books to
read at the moment are a mixture of the relationships between people and other
animals and books around Buddhism. I’m currently writing a book called Tortoise
Tales about captive tortoises telling their stories and what it’s like to be a
tortoise living with humans through their eyes. I have a book on Amazon all
about my reptiles and conversations I have had with them. http://www.amazon.co.uk/books/dp/151482160
Both of these books have been initiated by some of my animals. I am also dipping in and out of a more biography style book about my life with animals, but this is surprisingly difficult to write as I feel I can never capture enough on paper.
I’m not a big shopper but do love Jo Browns clothes as they are unique and hard wearing meaning less waste. They are also inspired by other cultures and travel is another love of mine, but one I don’t indulge in nearly enough as it requires money, something that is not abundant unfortunately. I’m also not a big cleaner, partially because I loathe using chemicals but also as I’m not really that domestic! Deep cleaning and de-cluttering does have a certain energetic release to it though and helps with energy rebalance in the house. I will admit to dying my hair, but my hairdresser uses a natural based dye and given my hairs unique ability to hold onto dye for months it only needs doing twice a year. It’s my one vain element I suppose, I miss my auburn hair of early childhood.
So there you have a little bit more about me: the animal loving, complementary therapy practicing, gardening writer who is not very domestic but does have some home comforts, and wishes she could travel more.
